Tonia brought her HP Laptop to me stating that
the unit got very hot and the fans never shut off. She had it checked out by
a local computer shop and was charged about $100. The diagnoses was not
correct and she was told to purchase a Laptop Cooler fan to put under the
unit.
She then brought her laptop to me hoping I could do something.
See the story below!
1. I figured a good place to start my investigation would be at the fan.
I removed this cover to reveal the fan assembly.
Next I removed the fan
assembly from the motherboard by loosening 4 screws.
2. Here is the removed fan assembly. Non CPU side.
3. Here is the side that contacts the CPU.
4. I noted that there was a bunch of animal hair sticking out of the
unit.
5. Using a small screwdriver, I removed the screws on the fan plate.
6. Fan plate removed revealing LOTS of animal hair.
7. Close up

9. Another Shot
10.
11. Animal hair removed.
12. I used compressed air to blow out any remaining animal hair and dust
from the radiator assemblies.
13. Reassembled the fan unit.
14. Reinstalled in the Laptop.
15. Used a paper towel to verify we had great air flow.
16. Laptop ran COOL and fans were not running continuously.
Proceeded
to clean up viruses and adware. Spybot reported multiple adware installs. I
guess this was miss diagnosed too!
