2006 Toyota Sienna iPhone Installation

Click any picture to Supersize it.

Design Requirements:

1. User is Left Handed (but that's all right)

2. Don't block the vent like the Pro-Clip does.

(Hey I have a pro-clip in my car!)

3. iPhone dock must be able to handle an iPhone with a protector case.

4. Dock must be able to rotate.

5. No messy wires (so it doesn't look like the back of my stereo system in the house)

6. Dock must not fall off the dashboard.

I used the Magellan Premium Car Kit.

Custom Bracket install
Custom Bracket:
  • Channels for wires filed into vent
  • Ball Joint mounted to bracket and held in place with nylon locking nut
  • The ball joint was ordered on ebay and matches the plastic one that came in the kit.

The screws for the bracket need to be placed so they don't hit the movable vent door..

Audio and Power wires are run behind the dash.

All the parts of the dash easily pull apart for fast access.

Landscape mode.

How can I connect the Premium Car Kit to my stereo?

Magellan needs to mention that the user may need an Audio Isolation Transformer to remove the noise they will hear in the audio.  A quick test to hear the noise floor is to pause the iPod / iPhone music while playing into the AUX input and then turning up the volume. (turn back down of course before resuming playing)
Buy the cheapest Audio isolation transformer from ebay and it will do the job!
Search for:
"3.5mm Earphone Jack Ground Loop Isolator Noise Filter"

The Audio Isolation transformer is tucked in behind the bezel to the right of the radio. If you don't use a transformer, the common mode current noise from the dock power supply gets into the radio and it sounds really bad.
Dock power supply.

  More to come..
Open Issues The iPod keeps disconnecting every 20-30 seconds.
  • Magellan claims the iPhone is not seated %100. I will investigate further.
  • Looks like the power cuts out and causes the issue
    • I jumperdd out their power supply and used another but it still has the same issue. I'll measure the time between drop outs next...
